Honey Bistro - Breakfast

Honey Bistro - Breakfast

This little cafe next to the San Francisco federal building has a variety of healthy options for breakfast and lunch. I was in a training all week and we all were let out for lunch late every day putting a ton of grumpy hungry people in line to get food - all at once! The staff at Honey Bistro handled it perfectly every single day this week. They were fast, friendly, and responsive. They had a daily special and soup of the day. Always looked tasty and nicely done. I opted for the chicken Francesco panini the first day which was white chicken meat on large pieces of crunchy bread, so fresh! It had sun dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers and pesto with crunchy fresh lettuce. Delicious! It came with your choice of a mixed green salad with cut up fresh veggies or a cup of soup. I had the salad. Fresh, crisp, a light dressing. Very very good. I had leftovers which they wrapped in foil as I requested so it would be still good for that evening dinner. I had similar items the other days this week. Each day did not disappoint. I also picked up juice, fruit, pastry and a couple items for snack or later that evening and breakfast next morning was taken care of since the cost at my hotel was horrendous and not open in time for me to get to the training. Every day the staff remembered me and chatted a bit even though they were crazy busy. I'm talking even the chefs behind the counter. All staff worked quickly and efficiently for a huge crowd and didn't skimp on service or smiles. Highly recommend Honey Bistro!

Came here to have a meeting/ lunch with my lawyer. I was lazy and got the Tuesday special. After ordering I really didn't pay much to the change that was handed back until I got back. The lunch was a small little plate of a couple ounces of chicken and a small rice with vegetables and 2 slices of bread. I didn't take a picture of the fountain drink it came with. And after eating I thought it came with a soup, but the lady told me that would had been $2.50 extra. It just reminded me of cafeteria food. After finishing our meeting and finishing what I had to do, I looked at my change. I had $8.50 in change for a $20 that I gave the lady. So that tiny lunch special was about $9.95 with tax?

The food is fairly good for breakfast and at very decent price for downtown. Federal employees get 10% off.But Honey Bistro - LISTEN! Your coffee is TERRIBLE. Please fix that! I can't emphasize how little value the "free" coffee adds with the breakfast specials because it's worse than motel coffee you brew in your own room.

This place has as much charm as an employee cafeteria, and when I stopped here for lunch, I kept wondering if it was meant to be just a go-to spot for Federal Building employees that happens also to be open to the public. That's the indifferent vibe I got when I stopped by here to get lunch before heading home to work. I walk by this place every day just because it's on my route, but since the concrete walls face the street, I could never tell what it was about. Curiosity must have gotten the best of me as I perused the menu taped to the front window. It was a fairly generic menu of soups, salads and sandwiches with hot entree specials for those patient enough to wait for them. The scene is extremely chaotic during the lunch hour, first to make your order at the register and then while you wait for your order as workers bark at each other behind the counter. I ended up getting the $10.50 Niçoise Salad, which was prepared strictly by-the-numbers with what appeared to be a half a can of albacore tuna clumped on top of a bed of mixed greens and romaine. It was accessorized with a demolished hard-boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and cubed potatoes, all of it doused in a generic vinaigrette dressing (photo: bit.ly/1hC7MNT). Olives and green beans were MIA despite their billing in the menu. I also went for the $2.50 Soup du Jour which that day was Italian Wedding. Although I didn't know for sure, it sure tasted like it came straight from the can (photo: bit.ly/1Pu7Xp9). Frankly I didn't mind so much since I always have cans of the Progresso Italian Wedding Soup in my pantry. Guess I don't have to apply for a Fed job now.FOOD - 2.5 stars...not much care in the preparation here, appears to be more an assembly job judging from the bland flavorsAMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...a bit of a zoo at lunchSERVICE - 2 stars...rather underwhelmingTOTAL - 2 stars...my potential career in government has been curtailed by my lunch here

Cute place to go for lunch near the San Francisco Federal building. They typically offer breakfast and lunch specials, in addition to discounts for employees as well (10%). I've eaten a variety of meals at this place, from pancakes and French toast for breakfast, to a yummy veggie burger, and the salad bar. I would had to say that my favorite is the veggie burger. It's not that the veggie burger is anything special, but it's cooked just right, with just the right amount of butter added to the bread. You can get it with fries or a salad. The fries are always cooked to perfection (move over, McDonalds!) and I always gobble them up fast. There is also a cute, enclosed patio located right off this restaurant, which is great on a nice sunny day or when you need a breather from the paper pushing. I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this place however if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a solid meal that's not too pricey, this is a great option to check out.Likes:-discount for government employees (10%)-courteous staff-solid food, including daily breakfast and lunch specialsDislikes:-not open during Federal holidays or weekends

Excellent beet salad. Fresh ingredients.  Fast service.  Clean, open dining room. Good vagerncy control.  Bad neighborhood but the staff are great at keeping the vagrents  out of the restaurant.

Good place to grab a quick bite in mid-market. The service is fast and efficient and there's rarely ever a wait, but maybe for a reason. Lots of tables for indoor and outdoor patio seating for groups and good if you want to be able to socialize without being surrounded by the hubbub of the city. Atmosphere is clean but sterile and but food is reflective of that too - is just okay if bland. The salad I had (Lyonnaise) was mostly romaine, a few mixed greens, a poached egg and some stale tasting bacon. Got dressing on side which was an odd cornstrachy consistency. 2.5 stars rounded down when calibrated with other options. At the same price, there's a lot better options nearby but you might have to wait a little bit longer for them.

The coffee at Honey Bistro just kinda ruined my Monday morning. I walk by here everyday on my way to work and always wanting to try new places so I stopped in here this morning for a cup of coffee.  Cheap (under $2.00) for a small coffee, but the flavor is awful. Taste bitter, almost burnt and no options for soy/almond/alternative milk creamers.  The whole place seemed a bit dreary, dark, empty shelves. Poor start to the week.

Sit outside here! They have a nice patio area with lots of open seating, definitely recommend getting some fresh air while you eat. And the food isn't bad either! I was pleasantly surprised (I don't know why I had low expectations, but for whatever reason I did). They have a wide variety of options that are all fresh and tasty. I really like the set up of the place as it's very open and clean, and once you get the feel of how the flow works (order and pay first), it's really nice!

Was looking for a place that was opened before 8am for weekday breakfast. Honey Bistro was of the places in the area that was open this early. Though the streets gradually got busier as the city wakes up, it was vary quiet inside the diner. Modest setting inside even though outside is surrounded with modern building aesthetics. Service was frieDefinitely recommend the French toast. Two slices of toast neatly cut into diagonal halves and arranged with whipped cream, lightly powered with sugar and served with small side capsules of jam and maple syrup. It's a hearty breakfast. The bread is soft and creamy texture that holds a puffy shape--it doesn't melt because you love syrup. Would come back to this joint if I'm in the area to have the French Toast again.

Fantastic food and service. I'm here for a training at the SF Federal Building and this little cafe is right here for Breakfast and lunch. So far I've had the omelette, both vegetarian and the one with home made pork belly, and the breakfast burrito, for lunch I had hoisin pork ribs, the works burger, and the blacked cob with cilantro rice. It was all amazing and tasty and the service is awesome. It's a laid back and relaxing place, yet the servers are on top of things.

Food was great, service was fast. Price was on point. I had the parisian Benedict and it was very tasty. I would definitely come here again

Nice little restaurant if you have a meeting at the federal building.  Staff was cheery, the place was clean and inviting, and the food was A-Okay!

Don't go if you're looking for a quick bite. Very friendly guy took my order, offered alternatives as they were out of exactly what I wanted. 30 minutes later everyone before and after me has gotten their food, I'm standing around wondering why mine hasn't come out as I've not heard anything from the cook or staff. Got my order, no apology or any clue why my order was pushed so far back. Sure, kitchen was clearly busy but four people who ordered after me - one with the same order as me - got their food first. Finally, food was okay. Not great, not bad. Won't waste my time or money here again.

Convenient, clean and delicious food right next to the federal building and off the Civic Center Bart. Not trafficked by transients so it feels safe and relaxing for a lunch or quick breakfast. They have daily morning specials that include coffee and go for $6.00 or less which is a great deal considering everything else nearby charges double the price. I love it and it's a great place to start the day. Also the workers are really nice and remember your name and face.

Cute little restaurant I had the egg white breakfast burrito it was good  nice flavor . The only thing I disliked was the customer service. Prices were reasonable

Well, we were let down and freaked out about cleanliness. Out of breakfast items, it's more of a cafeteria, self service drinks, and the service that we got was rough at best. The girl at the counter wearing the shaw didn't know about what was out and was very relaxed about finding out. Also, no "Hello" or a smile (oh she laughed when she was hanging out with her coworkers), she dropped off food and that was it. Later while we were eating, she dropped all the water cups on the ground picked them and put them right back for service to customers. Yeah, I'm in the food industry and that right there will get people sick. Food was average. Just watching the way this place is operated, we really hope we don't get food poisoning.

They have a new (expanded) menu!!! I am delighted. I always crave poached eggs for breakfast, but rarely do I find a place that has them as a to-go option. Honey Bistro is now one of those places!!! New permanent menu items include Parisian eggs benedict, eggs Bordeaux, veggie and sausage scrambles, croque monsieur, croque madame, salad nicoise, salad lyonnaise, etc etc etc. Also, the sandwiches that use to only be available as once-a-week specials are now available as part of the permanent menu (for example, Classic French Dip and Chicken Florence).Yay!!!

While some have indicated that the prices here are expensive, it's important to note that you are getting what you pay for. Previously, this location was Cafe98 which offered ridiculously low priced inedible items- greasy, over cooked, sad sad salad bar.Honey Bistro is a breath of fresh air. The quality is there, especially their salad bar which is often stocked with heirloom tomatoes, organic beets and dark greens not iceberg! I usually go in to grab a salad and it's only about $6 much cheaper than Mirtille down the street although there aren't as many options as Mirtille.I've stopped by for breakfast a few times and have gotten their breakfast burrito and breakfast quiche. The portion was overwhelming for me. I couldn't finish either in one sitting. BTW, if you are a federal employee, flash your badge for 15%!

Great place with a lot on space to dine or hangout with friends. Love the cute honey jars on each table. Food was good, and reasonably priced for serving. They have a patio to enjoy nice weather outside too. This location was clean, and staff is friendly.
