I was given no reason to rate this place lower than five stars. The pirozhki are freaking awesome. We tried two kinds, the mushroom and the beef. The beef pirozhki reminds me of a souped up cheese-steak egg roll (if you are from the Northeast like me). The dough is perfectly fried, chewy, and combines perfectly with the interior. The beef (and the mushrooms) were seasoned well, and not overcooked and mushy. Great texture. I could probably have eaten a few of these things, but I'm glad I only ate one because they definitely are oily and heavy. That's what you need after a long walk though! I cannot wait to come back and try the beef & cheese and the potato ones. The apple turnover was also awesome. After a quick heating up, it was buttery, flaky, sweet, chewy, crisp, just everything an apple turnover should be. Another thing I'm glad I didn't eat more than one of, but I easily could have. The prices are very fair. The pirozhki was just over $2, the apple turnover I believe was just over $3, and they take credit cards. I think we spent about $9 all said and done and were completely satisfied. The staff was super friendly. The girl at the counter was so nice and helpful. It's very clean inside, smells delicious, and everything seemed very fresh.I will 100% be back. I'm not sure from this moment on that I can walk by here and not stop in for a pirozhki to go. Next time it might not even make it home.

Nice little bakery with lots of different baked goods. I ordered the beef and cheese piroshki. First thing I noticed was how oily these piroshkis are. I bought two to go and by the time I got home, the paper bag was soaked with oil all around. Despite all the oil, I would say that it's pretty good. Not exactly sure which cheese was used but it's baked into the bread a bit inside and makes the bread soft. Also, such a great deal! Only $2.50 for one and they're quite large too.

We were looking to grab a quick breakfast before heading out to Lands End. Yelp pointed us to this bakery. I figured it's different and why not give it a try. We walked in and felt a little lost. The woman working there was really helpful and tried to explain the options to us and recommended some first timer items. We ended up with a huge beef cheburek and an apple turnover. The cheburek was enough for a meal and while it was tasty, it was a bit oily and heavy. I'm sure that's how it's supposed to taste though. The apple turnover was rather standard. Not bad for a few dollars and a few minutes of our time.

Fantastic selection of savory and sweet treats at a great price. Enjoyed a beef and cheese piroshki and a almond horn. Will be back!

I must have passed by this somewhat dated-looking Russian bakery many times without taking much notice. When curiosity finally struck, coupled with my desire to try more bakeries, I finally stepped inside and was pleased to discover their expansive display case filled with delicious-looking baked goods. Most of the items looked familiar, but none of the names did.I ordered an almond horn and something called a mishka. The almond horn looks a little like a cannoli, but it didn't taste too interesting. The shell seemed a little soft and the filling wasn't too special. The mishka looks like a cross between a napoleon and tiramisu. I thought the layers of sponge cake were a little to dry. I felt like I needed something to drink afterwards. I'd say both of those were not bad, but I'd need to try a few more items to fully assess how I feel about this place. Too bad I don't know where to begin to order. Based on the two pastries, I give it a 7/10.

The piroshki here is really good. The girl that works here is super friendly and always nice to talk to. And the cheese blintz is DELICIOUS. One night I came in late and there were no more blintz. She said I could order fresh baked ones if I bought a minimum of 4. No problemo! I'm definitely a repeat customer here.

Cheese blintz. Hot and fresh! Cheese blintz. Hot and fresh! 8/22/2016

My baked goods were paid for by a super generous male that was a regular at the shop. He originally wanted to purchase a Napoleon for me while I already (almost) purchased my Rose. It seemed interesting and the workers has suggested it. Napoleon: Moist, milky, flaky, delicious! Major thanks to the person that suggested and bought me the items! If I were to ever come back, it'd be for this. Rose: Rough and crunchy on the outside, moist and pastey in the middle. I believe it is walnut or almond paste which was yummy!Workers were nice and were on top of their customer service. One had some troubles with their english but that's okay! Happy I stopped by.

3-4 stars for the almond horn and piroshki, but the rest of the items were very mediocre. We came in on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty quiet during that time. We tried:-Beef & Cheese Piroshki ($2.50, yelp.com/user_local_phot…): Pretty good, and you get a giant piroshki for the price. There was a decent amount of filling, and it had good flavor. From L to R: Poppy Seed Cake ($3.50), Vanilla Meringue, Almond Horn ($3.50) [yelp.com/user_local_phot…-Almond Horn ($3.50): Pretty good- it's like a Lacey's cookie wrapped into a roll and then filled with whipped cream. I liked the crunch of it.-Poppy Seed Cake ($3.50): Yuck- this was super dry and crumbly, and not sweet. I didn't like this at all.-Vanilla Meringue: I'm not a fan of meringue and just tried a small piece, but didn't like it. Service isn't very friendly here, but I appreciated that all the items were clearly labeled with the prices. I would consider coming back for the piroshkis and to try some of their other items, but would definitely skip the poppy seed cake in the future! Parking can be tough since street parking is limited.

Been a few years since I've been back here and ta da!  They finally have beef AND cheese piroshkis.  Interesting choice to go with feta cheese in their filling.  Which isn't a great melting cheese in my opinion but delicious nonetheless.  I had never had their beef chebureks before until my last time here.  It's not as doughy as their piroshki but it's flaky and filling.  Just wrap it over two napkins to soak up the grease.  Before you crush it!

My husband got a couple of pastries from here and they were inedible - stale and tasteless,  went straight into the trash. Not sure if that is how their pastries usually are or they gave him the old stuff because he didn't speak any Russian. Either way, we will never come here again.

After eating at B-star Asian fusion a few blocks away, my family decided to stop to get desert. The Russian bakery seemed like a good idea and we were prepared for something a little different. The bakery is pretty standard with its layout and look.  Nothing too fancy, and a few display cases with huge deserts.  I ordered a giant almond cookie and my mom got the marble cake. The almond cookie was a 7/10. It could have been more moist, but the taste was perfect and the softness was on point.  The marble cake was absolutely amazing. I would say as high as a 9/10. Very moist and soft, and you could taste all the different flavors melding together. My one gripe is that the servings were too big, so this limited our options because we did not want to bring home half an apple turnover.

Not only they are cheats in cookery, their place itself is dirty. I came in and just left at once - the smell in the store was so unpleasant...

Wow. I haven't been here in about 8 years.  I was ecstatic. Even though we were stuffed from a late lunch, we ended up here anyway. This place has had a serious remodel.  I was kind of shocked. Almond horn = still as awesome as it ever was.Napoleon = always worth it. Flaky layers filled with custard.  Use a fork, and napkins!Cherry strudel and apple strudel = perfect pastry with fruit filling.  Prices = reasonable.  All of the above was under $14.00.  Oh, and they still have breads, cakes, and savory Russian delights (piroshki, blintzes, borscht, salads, etc.)  My friend really enjoyed the beef piroshki, $2.00!

A co-worker brought some piroshkis with cheese inside and others with what looked like onions and cabbage. Considering these had no meat in them, they were so tasty. They reheated nicely in the toaster oven. mmm!She also brought a large, round pastry that had meat inside. This was also delicious! Full of flavor and the bread on this, just like the piroshki are so dangerous. I'd love to go back to try more items. This co-worker is from Russia so I trust her patronage of this place and am so glad she introduced me to it.

I haven't had much experience of Russian pastries but I sought this place out after seeing a recipe for khachapuri, thinking it too difficult to prepare at home but then discovering that Moscow and Tbilisi Bakery offers them up for sale. The premises looked a bit tired, with a couple of gloomy corners but the table in the front window is neat for watching life on Geary Street. The prices appear to be consistently terrific. Piroshki with various fillings are each $2.50. The khachapuri are $5. The pastry aren't dinky little things either. I sat down with a cup of coffee and a strudel (both passable but not that impressive), and spent about twenty minutes listening to old Russian ladies buy bread and other stuff. Honestly, I'd probably give them three and a half stars but since that can't be done I rounded up.

Don't forget to Check-in for 10% off! They have the best little pastries if you're looking for a something small and sweet. Also great for personal birthday sweets. A small shop, if you want the baklava you got to come in earlier! It goes quick. Always come for The Napoleon and Cheese Blintzes!

I grew up coming here for the best piroshkis in SF!!  Every time I'm in the city I have to make a stop to pick up at least a dozen!!  Because now my husband and kids are addicted...They are contagiously good!!!!

Best piroshkis in SF.I love this bakery, and it's very convenient they have online ordering. Their soups and traditional dishes are fabulous too.

Yummy Russian baked goods! Overpriced salads, olivie didn't taste like real Russian olivie salad. Russian customer service is below average - expect it, this is a given. They refused to apply yelp discount towards my second purchase during the same visit.
