I've only had their Vietnamese iced coffee and it's excellent. $3 for a fairly generous portionI want to come back for their sandwichI wouldn't come alone, tho, the neighborhood is sketchy.

I've always been a fan of Saigon sandwiches, but definitely had to come and try what people have been calling authentic Vietnamese sandwiches. I grew up eating Banh Mi's and have even tried some in Vietnam, which is as legit and authentic as you can get. I ordered the combination and it was pretty darn good. I like that their French roll bread isn't too thick so you're not having to overstretch your jaw hahah and they have a great balance of ingredients. Their banh mi's however are a bit smaller compared to other shops. So what's my verdict? My family has been ordering from Saigon for years and it has a soft place in my heart, but Sing Sing comes at a close second! And a plus about this place is that you don't have to wait long, Saigon can sometimes have long lines.

THEY HAVE THE BEST BANH MI IN NORCAL (period) Since 1990, Harry Lam opened Sing Sing Sandwich Shop to bring the goodness of Saigon banh mi with him to the States. With his long charming hair, Harry Lam is not only the owner of the best banh mi shop in Norcal but also is a great musician! If you're close with him, you will be amazed at his guitar and singing skills. Born and raised in Saigon, my first step to Sing Sing Sandwich Shop took me straight to an authentic Vietnamese coffee shop in Vietnam where people would drink ca phe sua da, eat good food, discuss about news events and share the stories of their lives. Although the front offers limited seating, the back of the shop opens out to a spacious estate for Vietnamese elders to chill. For many young ones, this shop sells the authentic banh mi of Saigon. For these elders, this shop is their escape route to reconnect to their Vietnamese culture, friends and country. Many wonder why this shop remains to look like "straight-out-of-saigon". Harry believes that this hovel style is most preferred by his customers. Location (5/5): The shop locates on Hyde St between Ellis St and Eddy St. If you are a SF native, you wouldn't have to worry about parking. If you are driving from elsewhere, gotta rely 100% on street parkings. Services (5/5): Harry (owner) and Dung (the famous cook and sweet lady standing at the front) are the nicest people on Earth! Smiley Harry would always welcome customers with his charisma while Dung would passionately talk about her banh mi babies. I bet they wake up, work out, eat, and sleep with these banh mis. Food (BROKE THE 5 SCORE SCALE): Although I live in San Jose - the city of Vietnamese food, I would drive to SF for their banh mis without any hesitation. It's not about the hype and the price point that trigger such hunger. It's the vibe that I get from the owners, the authentic taste that I crave from my homeland, and the 10 more togo banh mis (of course, why wouldn't I). I have friends who were born and raised in Saigon, or visited Saigon multiple times; many agreed that Sing Sing has the closest taste of banh mi from home far far away. From the combo banh mi cha lua to banh mi xiu mai, I LOVE THEM. My partner in crime who has tried banh mi all around the Bay, too agrees that these are the best Banh Mi eVar. Taking the crown from a shop in downtown Saigon, District 1. Damn I'm hungry.

You're in SF and are looking for an authentic banh mi, where is it that you should go, you ask? Saigon Sandwich? If you're a Pier 39 person, then sure go for it! But if you're looking for that charming place that gives you an authentic banh mi sandwich with a Vietnam feel, this is the place for you. With a jungle of plants throughout the sandwich shop along with tables covered in red and white checkered picnic table covers and green plastic chairs, this awesome gem reminded me of Vietnam; Vietnamese show playing on the old school CRT TV, card game playing, and little English spoken by its workers and customers alike. They have (3) sandwich choices: special combination, meatball, and chicken. I went with the special combination. Go with the special combination! A classic Vietnamese sandwich choice; it has headcheese, sliced steamed pork and ham along with the essentials of pickled sliced carrots and daikon, cucumbers, sliced jalapeños, mayo on a french baguette roll.

One of my favorite Vietnamese sandwich spots in SF. I've been coming here since high school and the quality has not changed at all! The special is what I come here for, I love their fancy pork. Idk why but I like it sliced more thinly and I think the thinner slices makes it soak up the fish sauce more, giving every bite more oomph! Also the bread to meat ratio is on point. Whenever I'm in the TL, I never fail to get a sandwich at sing sing's. One thing though, they put a lot of spicy jalapenos in the sandwich. I reiterate- SPICY

This place doesn't get enough credit, as Saigon Sandwich is down the street and gets all the attention. IMO, Sing Sing has the best and most authentic Vietnamese sandwiches in the city. (I'm Vietnamese!) The meats are clean and not drenched in some greasy sauce. The sandwiches have ALL the right ingredients - you have to have cucumber, cilantro, pickled vegetables, and jalepeños!!! You end up with a fantastic and light sandwich that doesn't way you down. And the best part is that there's actually seating inside, so you can come here with your coworkers or friends and enjoy your sandwiches inside! The place is legit and reminds me of little cafes in Saigon. Love it!!!

After Banh Mi Saigon, Sing Sing Sandwich comes in second for me! Thank the Lord for my parents who were both born in Vietnam & can introduce me to such amazing hole in the wall places that I'd probably never find on my own!!! The bahn mi is always on point! I like that it's much lighter and not as "heavy duty" (my dad would say lol). Their Ca Phe Sua Da is legit too! NOMMMS

4bucks Flat for Pork Combination. CASH Only. Its a good Sandwhich that does fullfill your appitite.Hits the Spot better way harder then Subway in a great way.Homemade light Mayo.Fresh legitimate marinated right ingrediants.Love the generous Cilantro and French sliced Jalepenos. Just a hint but not too much. Theres an awesome article raving about itPostef on the window. It got me curious.I tried it today. They have an impressive display of fresh cut meats. The place is cozy. There is a hint of second hand from smokers out front.Lady is nice, they speak chui chow and cantonese.Sandwhich looks small but its Dense.Meat portion and vegie ratio is fair. They do have pate but its lacking yhe Zing of old Kien Than. They make it Fresh. The plastic chairs really brings me to Viet Nam outdoor restaurant furniture.Id come back.:) Good to alternate my Banh mi spots. Favorite in the TL so far is Lees. Have to check in with Kien Tanh to see if they can bring back my favorite childhood style the way the mother use to make em. Fully loaded and packed with Flava!!Bought a sandwhich for work lunch. Eating it 4hours later andman is it great cold and after hours of marinating in my bag!;) you can smell the aroma!

As soon as I walked in here, I felt immediately transported out of San Francisco.  I came in for a banh mi, and I learned that they make real Vietnamese coffee (without the mix) - I thought this might be my new spot.  I looked across the counter and saw a bunch of ready-made banh mis without vegetables, and my expectations took a big hit.  My banh mi was not great - the bread was not fresh, and it was dense (a good banh mi baguette should be both crispy and fluffy).  The meat combo had a good taste to it but there just wasn't much overall.  The ca phe sua dua saved the experience -  this place does a Vietnamese iced coffee done right.  With an old-fashioned cafe in back, it's fresh Viet coffee on tap - no mix here.  I enjoyed it and would come back for the coffee, if not the sandwich.  Maybe they make other things?

the sandwiches are ok not the best compared his brother who used to hold that title a while  back with his store on geary. anyways the service here sucks. the lady who works the counter is slow. she shows favoritism towards certain customers and is mouthy as well. the wait used to not be bad when the owner used to make the sandwiches but now its a hit or miss if his wife is making it. she is constantly being yelled at for working slow and making people wait 20 mins for 1 sandwich when there is no rush of customers. i have heard people cuss her out and even in a few cases i have even herd customers throwing the sandwich in her face because of how she mouths off to customers because of her crapper service.

After being led along by my native SF lady on a sprint-like walk across the Tenderloin in order to avoid the violent piss-odor cut of the Tenderloin, we arrived at a small strip of Vietnamese coffee shops."Oh good Sing Sing is still open"The only English I heard inside was whatever me or the GF said and the reply to our order in English. Options were 4 many: Special Pork Combo, Meatball, Chicken, and Pork Skin. I pointed to the Pork Combo and the Pork Skin but GF accidentally got the Chicken instead and was delightfully surprised...Pork Combo opened my world, Chicken godzillaed it... there was pate and other things I won't mention completing the combo that I absolutely loved. and they were soooooooooo good left a mystery. The jalapeño and the pickled carrot & daikon added fire and emphasis. The bread was cake-lake, crunchy and sweet.I'll stop now. The whole meal was $8 for 2 sandos. Legit

I normally don't order banh mi dac biet but it was the perfect amount of meat. No weird pickled onions like a lot of vietnmaese sandwich places. The bread was toasted nicely. I would totally go back. Parking is a challenge so have a friend drive around the block while you grab the sandwich--also remember to bring cash!

Pretty good banh mi but not my favorite (meatball banh mi @ Dinosaurs!). It's not clear from the reviews but there is a selection of sandwiches, not just one choice. And it's not any cheaper than Saigon Sandwich or any other banh mi around town. It's not that hard to find despite being off the main drag of Little Saigon - there's a sign above the door. I got the combo sandwich for $4.Good if you're in the area and don't want to deal with Saigon Sandwich but not worth going out of your way.

Take it from someone who grew up eating banh mi that this place makes them just right.  Classic style, get the combination viet deli meat. They load it up just right.  What gives this place the 5 stars is their baguette, its the perfect crispy so if you don't like your bread that hard then you might not like this place.  There's also no fluff, as you can tell this place is operated old school style for regulars to sit play cards and drink coffee.  If you want the glam go to bun mee and pay your 8 dollars for a sandwich.

Sandwiches were fresh, very tasty, and the bread was super crunchy! If you're not in a hurry I highly recommended it!  (because it took at least 10 mins to slow toast the sandwiches in the oven).

3/7/2014

I looooove their Vietnamese coffee ($3). It feels like robbery when you're paying a dollar or so more for a full sandwich.  Ask for extra EXTRA light cream otherwise it's too sweet. The sandwiches are pretty standard Vietnamese bahn mi. I think I prefer Saigon Sandwiches (bigger, more pickled slaw, and just tastes fresher), but these are even cheaper. The cashier/owner/chef lady is super sweet!

Combination Bahn Mi Combination Bahn Mi 6/5/2016

The classic combination banh mi (which was $4) did not disappoint - probably one of the best I've had in SF. Only complaint? The sandwich was pre-assembled and the lady who handled my sandwich ran her hand through water for a milisecond (no soap, no gloves) after touching cash. I was cringing as she was making my food... I guess that's what you have to sacrifice for the "authentic" experience.

4/4/2015

Sing Sing has the most legit banh mi in the Bay Area. Better than Saigon or Mission in SF, Ba Le in Oakland, even Huong Lan down in San Jose. Referring of course to the only type of banh mi that matters, the OG dac biet / combo. And at Sing Sing, that's one of the very few options, the second worth mentioning being the meatball. The ladies here make sandwiches for the old Viet people who live nearby, not for the Soma tech workers or Mission hipsters who made a wrong turn into the TL.

11/6/2015

The banh mi is good but not as good as Saigon Sandwich. The employees here do not speak English that well. There is a backroom with things happening back there.
